Church Life

engage - cafechurch style every Third Sunday

Engage

To accompany our morning Essential 100 series, on the third Sunday evening of the month we're planning a series of Cafe Church style evenings to probe a little deeper underneath the world of the scriptures.

This series is called facetheBook - and starts Sunday 16th January 6.00 p.m.

"Questions I was Afraid to Ask about the Bible"

facethebook

And then once a month for this first engage series :-

  • Who decided on the books of the Bible and how was it decided? What about the other books that didn't make it? - the 'canon' of Scripture.
  • Is the Bible historically reliable? -  the accuracy of the Bible.
  • Does the Bible have errors, mistakes or contradictions in it? - the inerrancy and infallibiity of the Bible?
  • What do we mean when we call the Bible a 'Living Word'? How does it speak to us today? - the inspiration and 'revelation' of the Bible.
  • What about the bits of the Bible we'd rather not mention? - the violence, retribution and judgement of God. Are they really part of God's revelation of himself?

Over a cup of coffee, we'll be looking at issues such as: the origins of the writings we now call the Bible, it's integrity and reliability as a historical document, and what it has to say about relevant issues in our world today. Following the messages there will be the opportunity to engage further and join the discussion in smaller groups. We're excited about discovering more about God's word together and hope you can join the discussion too!
