November Revive - signing off for '06

Gareth and Kris

Gareth and Chris in action

November the 24th will see the last Revive of the year, so we're planning a good one! Continuing the surf theme from October, Revive welcomes Gareth Dix and Kris Lannen of the Cornwall-based band Narrowpath, famed for their link to the Liquid events. The event will start at 730 in a new venue: the Eden Gate Cafe on City Road... Click here for further directions.

An Interview with Gareth Dix

Our cellphone-reporter Ian Thomson caught up with Gareth Dix last Wednesday to find out a bit about himself, Narrowpath and what to expect on Friday night...

IT - Hi Gareth. So you're a Cornwall lad then?

GD - [in distinct Welsh brogue] no, not at all! I was brought up in the valleys. I've only been in Cornwall since 1998, really. My wife is from near London, but we've settled into Cornwall well.

IT - And how did you get involved in music?

GD - Both my parents were musical, so I guess I just grew into it really. My dad taught me to play the guitar, and I've just kept going. As I got better at it, I've joined a couple of bands, and now I'm with Narrowpath.

IT - This is the second month Revive has hosted musicians from the Christian Surfers. Tell us a bit about how that operates down in Cornwall.

GD - They're a great group. When I moved down here to Cornwall I had two objectives in mind, really. The first was to put a Christian band together, and the second was to get together with other Christian surfers, because at the time there wasn't anything organised. When I arrived down here I went and asked a local minister if he knew of any other Christian surfers around, and he introduced me to Kris Lannen, who will also be at Revive on Friday. And from that, both the Christian Surfers movement and the basis for Narrowpath were formed and grew.

IT - And finally...any hints about Friday night?

GD - it's going to be a learning curve for us as well. Narrowpath is a seven-piece rock band, and Revive will be the first time we've played an acoustic set. We're going to be playing mostly our own songs, but adapted for the environment. A lot of the music we do is essentially worship music...the Liquid events [http://www.narrowpath.co.uk/liquid/index.html] that we're involved in are drawing large numbers of Christian Surfers and others together just to worship God, really, so Revive will be a whole new setting! We're game if you are...
