Tax Effective Giving

Bethel gets a large proportion of its income from the Taxman. The good news is that if you pay tax, for every £1 you give to Bethel, we can claim a further 28p from the Taxman.

All you need do is follow the link to the gift aid form, fill it in and return the form to the tresurer.

Once you have decided to make your gift to Bethel one of the easiest ways for the church to track  the money you give is by you giving by standing order. Follow the link to download a standing order form so that you can use to instruct your bank to make the payment.

Some frequently asked questions about gift aid.

Q:  How do I make my donation?

A:  When donations are made under the gift aid scheme there must be an audit trail. Therefore your gifts need to be made by cheque, standing order, or through a gift aid envelope scheme. (This will allow you to pay cash if you so wish)

Q: How do I know if I pay enough tax to qualify?

A:  As long as you pay enough tax in the year to match the tax that Bethel claims back, you donation will qualify. e.g. If you donate £100 to Bethel the church can claim back £28.21 from the Inland Revenue. To qualify for Gift Aid you must have paid £28.21 or more over the course of the year.

Q: What will I have to do to gift aid?

A:  You have to pay a basic rate of income tax up to the value of your gift. Complete a gift aid form and give it to the treasurer, Make your gifts via an auditable route.

Q: What if I pay a higher rate of income tax?

A:  If you pay tax at the higher rate of 40%, Bethel can still only reclaim tax at the basic rate of 22%. The benefit to Bethel works out a slightly more than 28p for every £1 you give. If you wish, you can reclaim the remainder of the tax on your tax return.

Q:  What if I pay the lower rate of income tax?

A:  If you pay the lower rate of 10%, Bethel can still reclaim tax at the standard rate of 22%. The benefit to Bethel works out a slightly more than 28p for every £1 you give. You must have paid enough tax in this year to match the tax Bethel will reclaim.

Q:  Do I Have to give every week?

A:  No give as frequently or infrequently as you wish, either every week or a one off gift.

Q:  Do I have to give a regular amount?

A:  No you can give how ever much you want to

Q: Do I have to commit to giving for a set period of time?

A: No a declaration can cover anything from a single donation to all donations made until you state otherwise. This will be dependant on the selection you make on the gift aid declaration.

If you have any additional comments please contact the treasurer.
