Youthscape Essentials x Small Groups

yse logo rgb pink
Coming up from October 1st on a Wednesday evening in the church building as an alternative to small group, we will be running the Youthscape essentials course.
Some will remember we ran a cut down version of the first session during an all ages service, from which there was a lot of interest in running the full course.

What: Youthscape Essential Course
When: Wednesday Nights from Oct 1st, 7:30 - 9:30
Where: Bethel Baptist Church

Now you may be asking the question, “Why should I come to the Youthscape essentials course?” well if you can say yes to any of the following you should be there!
I help and support the children and youth groups

  • I am a current Youth or Children's leader or helper
  • I am a parent
  • I attend Bethel and see the young people and want to understand what I can do for and with this generation.
  • I want to be challenged, and stretched in my knowledge and skills.
  • I want to support the Children and Youth work at Bethel but don’t know how…
  • I know a lot about youth and children's work and want to share my expertise and knowledge with others

I think that probably covers everyone!

The Youthscape essentials course is a 10 week course, there are 3 sections to each session providing the following.

An Insight-

Hear from young people as they share their experience of family, school, church and social media. Hear expert insights, the latest research and inspiring stories.

These include:

  • Why Youth Ministry
  • Adolescent development
  • Growing up digital
  • Growing up GenZ
  • Family Life
  • Christian Discipleship
  • Sexuality & Gender
  • School Life
  • Emotional and Physical Health
  • Mission & Exploring Faith

A Skill -

Ten key skills which are essential for every volunteer youth leader, whatever your role. Practical and applicable to every kind of youth activity. Learn new skills and develop existing ones. Grow in confidence about what you can do.

Your Character-

Ten personal reflections to strengthen your own faith as the foundation of your volunteering. Be encouraged as you discover how God will work in you and through you. Explore a Biblical understanding of character and service.

Including:

  • Loving
  • Humble
  • Open
  • Disciplined
  • Forgiving
  • Authentic
  • Committed
  • Faith filled
  • Hopeful
  • Courageous

You may still be thinking that this doesn’t apply to me, I don’t do youth or children’s work… well I’d like to tell you, you actually do, but you don’t realise it yet!  If you attend Bethel and are with us on a Sunday you will see we are blessed with a vibrant group of young people here, and without realising it you will be interacting with, encouraging, praying for and walking along side our young people every week. I don’t know about you, but if I’m doing something regularly, like with most tasks, it’s always good to have the right tools and understanding to do it.
So please look at this time on a Wednesday night as an investment in the church, the young people and yourself.

I look forward to having you there.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

Where and When

The church is open for activities throughout the week but if you are just seeking us out it is likely that you will want to come and be a part of our Sunday worship which is core to what we are about.
We meet in the main church building (details here) at 10:30 each week. See our calendar to find out plans for the next few weeks.

Accessibility

There is wheelchair access and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer and church lounge.

Our Sunday Services

Sunday morning services are structured but informal. They include a mix of both contemporary and traditional worship songs and hymns, prayers, readings from the Bible and a sermon that unpacks this. Occasionally we will also have specific updates about ways that God has been working through and in people and activities. Once a month we celebrate communion as part of the service. The last Sunday of the month is usually an Altogether Service when all ages are all together in one place for a more relaxed and activity based time of worship.

We aim to finish at about 11.45 to Midday when we serve free tea, coffee and cold drinks. This is a great opportunity to get to meet people.

Sunday Evening services, either in person or online, tend to be shorter and more reflective and are an opportunity to dig a little deeper into our relationship with God.

What about the children and youth?

We have a great programme for children of all ages, for more information about what happens please visit our Children and Youth page.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

It is often in smaller gatherings that we can really get to know other people. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some in the afternoon and some in the evening either in the church, in peoples’ homes or online    .
If you are interested in joining a Small Group, let us know and we can put you in touch with the small group coordinator who will be more than happy to find a group that is convenient for you and introduce you to the group leader.

Get Involved

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with the life of our church. If you'd like to find out more, please let us know.
